In today's Chron. one the inside page of the Business section, after the
article about "AT&T rewrites rules: Your Data isn't yours" was an
interesting short article titled "On line marketing chief quits Microsoft".
MS corp. said Martin Taylor, a former assistant to Chief Exec.
Officer Steve Ballmer who was promoted to vice president in March to
lead the software giant's fight against on line rivals, has left the
company.
"We've made the difficult decision to part ways with Martin Taylor
but we don't comment on personnel matters," the company said in an
e-mailed statement that didn't disclose the reason for his departure.
Taylor is credited with helping MS beat back the threat posed by the
free Linux operating system when he was head of platform strategy with
the Windows group. His exit leaves Microsoft searching for a new expert
to revamp marketing for the MSN Web sites and Windows Live services.

Prior to working on Windows Live and MSN marketing, Taylor led the
company's efforts to battle open-source competitors, who believe that
source code should be freely shared. Microsoft believes such software
blueprints should be closely guarded.
Taylor had been with Microsoft for 13 years.

hmmmm, maybe he fought well. But apparently MS didn't believe he won the
battle.
