It would indeed be a major task to retool a police department with Linux--

but somehow it seems easist when your dealing with a system that is 
already quite dated.

As for employment for IT people-- I'm pleased business has picked up, 
but for how long? 

San Francisco is a great place-- forward-looking politicians could make 
a splash by improving technology and saving money at the same time.  
Using Linux would be revolutionary-- and give the city a reputation for 
being bold and smart at the same time too.

It would be nice to bring some supervisors or the mayor into a 
discussion-- if for no better reason than to get them to think about 
improving the SFPD's IT.

Why is it that arguing about Linux keeps hitting a wall with some 
folks-- its not like asking how a 47 story building (never hit by a 
plane) could fall into its own footprint in about 6 seconds on 9/11/01 
and not even be mentioned in any governmental investigation report!
