You can run 32 bit apps on a 64 bit kernel, in fact you can have a
whole 32 bit userland without any trouble that I'm aware of, so even
if your apps are solidly 32-bit you can still have a 64-bit kernel,
your 32-bit apps will just be limited to the 4GB (or is it 3?) each,
but they would anyway
