thank you so much.
I turned in my paper now.. and i'm really grateful to all of you.
As you look so committed to this community, I'll share what I finally wrote.
Remember that I just arrived in the US and this is my first English class in
higher education. (we're not that focused on how to do reseach and how to be
accurate yet)
those are the parts you helped me with.
(...) It is there that I was first introduced to Linux** *: the main
open-source operating system. (...)
*
footnote:
* Linux, as an open-source operating system (OS), provides a free, stable
and fully customizable environment for computer users, in contrast
withMicrosoft Windows (Windows XP, Windows Vista, etc...) and Apple's
Mac OS.
Linux is also the OS used on the One Laptop per Child project, whose mission
is to provide cheap computers to every children in developing countries. Via
customizable computers, they applied what they call "learning learning" as
the fundamental educational experience. (If you are interested to learn
more, please visit http://laptop.org). *
(...) Google is more and more opening its products' source codes. Here is
what it says about open sources regarding one of its last products, the web
browser Chrome: "We owe a great debt to many open source projects, and we're
committed to continuing on their path. [To build Chrome] We've used
components from Apple's WebKit and Mozilla's Firefox, among others - and in
that spirit, we are making all of our code open source as well. We hope to
collaborate with the entire community to help drive the web forward."*
Believe me, Google is moving fast, much faster than Microsoft
(whose temporary success is based on copyrights only). It's not by allowing
everyone to be able to have the same impact on its products that Google is
going to lose either money or the quality of those products; they actually
do it to allow much, much faster improvements in every directions. As Google
increases its power by participating in the open source ecosystem, our
government could increase the potential of education by providing the
support to such a dynamic.(...)
footnote:
* "A fresh take on the browser" by the Google team (
http://www.google.com/chrome/intl/en/why.html?hl=en)
This is an essay about what I called "Pro-Active Self-Managed Education(c)"
thanx
I'll talk to you soon.
ciao.
