Jim --

I won't comment on your request (except to say that it sounds like
something BALUG probably _will_ want to do): For one thing, although I
vaguely recollect that I'm supposed to have the listadmin password, I
cannot find it at the moment. So, I could not possibly act on your
request, anyway.

Anyhow: You are almost certainly unaware that BALUG has also gone
frequently, in its public announcements and on its Web sites, by the
alternate names "SFBALUG" and SFLUG" since its founding by Art Tyde and
David Sifry in 1997. See, for example:
http://web.archive.org/web/19981205155210/http://www.balug.org/index.html
http://web.archive.org/web/20000830145325/www.balug.org/ml/balug-talk/
http://web.archive.org/web/20001007155034/www.balug.org/ml/balug-talk/msg00007.html

Note in particular the following in the latter hyperlink:

  San Francisco Linux Users Group
Meeting Announcement for Tuesday, February 4th 1997
Topic: Performance Management and Capacity Planning by Dr. Neil J. Gunther
  (abstract attached)

I personally found that fact (having three names) to be regrettable, at
the time: Essentially, Art kept vacillating about the name of the group,
and only eventually did it settle down onto BALUG. I wish he had picked
one name and consistently sticked with it.

But the fact remains that BALUG has a prior claim and an established,
albeit little used, history of being "San Francisco Linux Users Group".
(I would urge that it not persist in maintaining that identity, but
wanted to let you know of the history.)
