I notice that about 2/3 of these recruiters just lob their jobs postings towards any-old-where, and say only that they want personal help from some unspecified stranger (that would be me) in posting to "your site". I've conversed with some of them, and uniformly they really have no idea what they mean by "site" in this context; they figure you'll work hard to _figure out_ somewhere, as if figuring out where to put their posts is somehow _your_ problem. And they never, ever read documentation. These people are paid for _what_, again? (Jim feel free to post this on the SF-LUG page, if you wish. For informing speakers/presenters about presentation equipment/faclities, (e.g. video projection) etc., this covers things pretty well (particularly when also following the URLs that it also references): http://lists.balug.org/pipermail/balug-admin-balug.org/2006-August/000231.h… I like the wiki idea suggested earlier though, ... probably ought to create a wiki page and put the information there, ... that way it could be in one persistent place, and also get updated/tweaked as/when appropriate.

Speaker Coordination wiki page!

The idea(s) (Thanks Jim Stockford & others!) were too good not to implement, so: http://www.balug.org/modules.php?op=modload&name=phpWiki&file=index&pagenam… I populated it with relevant key information I had in much of my (semi-)recent e-mails and such ... mostly from when we/I started dealing with the "mad scramble" to come up with replacement speaker for this past August's meeting, ... certainly got a fair number of potential leads/suggestions following that. (Not sure I've gotten all those leads/suggestions "squeezed" out of my e-mail and onto that wiki page, but probably have at least most of them so far ... still going through some of the yet more recent e-mail). Let me/us know if you think there are ways we should change how it's organized or formatted on the wiki page or whatever. I also generally listed folks as "Person(s) leading or to contact about" for who would (at least presumably) be the lead contact for varous speakers/presenters/groups - do feel free to change that as may be appropriate (heck, that really does apply to that whole web page, after all - at least as we're at least approximately in agreement on how the stuff should be changed and updated). October speaker update

So I got in touch with Pat McGovern of Splunk re: the upcoming meeting. As it turns out, no one had been in touch with him, so he wasn't confirmed in the least. So... if it's ok, I can probably convince him to give a talk. The other options would be... 1. Rick M., as mentioned previously 2. Doug MacEachern, mod_perl creator, CTO of Hyperic 3. I could probably get one of Larry Augustin, any of the SugarCRM guys, or one of the 6 Apart guys (who are working on some interesting projects) Let the discussion commence. Do any of you know who originally suggested Pat McGovern? It turns out that he was scheduled to speak in August, but he was given the wrong date, so my vote would be to get him confirmed if possible, since he was kind of given the runaround last time - at least, according to him. -JM

I've updated the BALUG website. It can probably use more tweaking/polishing, but at least the basic information on speaker/presentation for the 2006-10-17 meeting is now on the web page. If no one else beats me to it, I'll probably polish it up a bit by around the time we have our "announcement" polished off and sent out (as by then we may have additional details on how we may want to tweak text regarding speaker/presentation for the 2006-10-17 meeting).

(Bcced to Patrick McGovern; also, FYI Patrick: the balug-admin(a)lists.balug.org list is publicly archived and includes the BALUG speaker coordinators, plus more folks that also do and/or are interested in following other BALUG administrivia (planning, etc.) matters). Patrick - John may have already asked/mentioned this, but we could use suitable "blurbs" for web site, etc. (we have at least one older one, see also information further below, including reference to the one we have from earlier). You can send/reply to the "speaker coordinators" (from some of the earlier e-mail sent to you), or to this list if you prefer. We have earlier description ("longish blurb" description) on: http://lists.balug.org/pipermail/balug-announce-balug.org/2006-August/00007… (look towards the bottom of that item). Let us know if you'd want us to tweak that. More about "blurbs" a bit further below. Jim, I had first made contact with Patrick and then letting others continue the scheduling. Ann E. W. has said she did the miss scheduling for August meeting. But I think Patrick says that he would do the October meeting. As to my opion who should speak I could go for any you suggested in today balug-admin posting. Am I wrong in my thought that Patrick saying hr would speak in October?
