I had planned on attendding the june meeting and my wife took off work so we could. I was out of town when Adrew posted speaker problem. I would have felt better having no speaker but meeting on the regular day. I have enjoyed no speaker meetings in the past. I hope meeting is well attended tonight. My health is not as good as has been so I will only attend a few meetings of balug in the future unless my health improves. I do not expect Dick Verna to make many meetings of BALUG. Passing this comment back. I vaguely recall that whichever kind soul is underwriting the hosting of BALUG's presence at Dreamhost (Michael Hubbard?) claimed that it's not possible to configure acceptance of mail at the RFC-mandated postmaster(a)balug.org and abuse(a)balug.org mailboxes, and delivery to somewhere useful.[1] Dave Anderson (below) claims that this is not the case, that the Dreamhost customer merely needs to configure that functionality, to make it happen. It would be greatly to BALUG's advantage, were that to be done. (Hint, hint.) Looks like the Four Seas is not available for September. This may be a bit of a problem because Ian Murdock's schedule seems to be quite tight. Really unfortunate considering two other date changes this year. Hi Jorge: Jim Stockford and Michael Paoli, who are copied on this message, are running point on the LUG booth. While the booth is in BALUG's name, the concept is to share it with other local F/OSS user groups. To the extent that members of the Norcal HUG would like t help out, I suspect that there may be interest in recruiting volunteers to help man the booth. However, I do want to mention that on the speaker coorninater list, Jim S. and Michael P. brought up the issue of keeping the 3rd Tuesday as the meeting date for fear of folks turning up on that date w/o checking the mailing list or website. One could argue that we'll never have a regular membership if we keep swapping the date around. I'm confident that we'll draw 40+ for Andrew Morton if we shift the date back now and let folks know ASAP. If we have a knowledgeable but (relatively) anonymous speaker we'll probably dip back below 20 attendees. My personal goal is to build BALUG's regular membership and from that perspective its better to have 1 or 2 people show up on the original date and be confused with 40+ people having another really good BALUG experience the following week. Anyone who shows up on the original date will likely check the website, realize _THEIR_ mistake and likely decide to come the following week... 1002 reasons to subscribe to the announce list _AND_ read it. Bottom line: most folks know that famous people have lots of demands on their calendars and will likely be tolerant of the shift.
