I'm going to repost this message individually and assume that the rejection was an oversight because no reason was given for it. In the future, I would appreciate a reason being given if a post of mine is intentionally rejected. The event will be happening on the 12th and 13th April 2008, and will provide the unique atmosphere of the UK event, but in glorious San Francisco. LugRadio Live has developed a strong reputation for providing a range of topics about free software, Open Source, digital rights, technology and more, a compelling list of speakers, exhibitors and birds of a feather sessions, and wrapping it all in a unique, fun, loose, social and inclusive event, which is often described as combining the atmosphere of a rock concert and a computer conference. At LugRadio Live USA 2008 we plan on bringing this unique atmosphere to the USA, and inviting around 30 speakers, a full cast of exhibiting projects and companies, an eclectic range of BOF sessions, and plenty of additional sessions such as our debate discussion panel, a showcase of five minute talks, tech demos, and of course a live recording of LugRadio in front of an audience. We expect around 500 - 700 attendees to the event. Anyway, to the business in hand... As mentioned, we'll be having an exhibition area where we want to have projects and companies who do cool things. In the past we've had open source projects showing off their work such as KDE, Gnome, and Ubuntu, companies who work with Linux like Neuros, distributors like Sun, Red Hat and Novell, and also a range of user groups looking to publicise themselves to the community at large. We were wondering whether the Bay Area LUG would be interested in having an exhibition stand at the event this year? Exhibitor space is free; we don't charge, because LugRadio Live is a community event. The focus is on people having a great time, not in making money :-) We'd like it if your exhibition stand could be something fun and interactive, rather than just a table with leaflets and advertising. Another thing: as part of the event, we provide each attendee with a registration bag, containing some free items from different organisations. We try to keep the items in this bag as interesting as possible, and in the past this has included pens, badges, software, clothing and more. If you'd like to contribute something to the bag this year for LugRadio Live USA 2008, we'd be happy to include it. Both the goodie bag and an exhibition stand are excellent ways for you to be associated with a strongly community and Open Source focused event, and the demographic it attracts. For the bag, we will need 500 of whatever you choose to contribute, and all you need to do is ship them to us, there is no charge in addition to sending the items - we will add them to the bags ready for the event. LugRadio Live in the UK has developed a strong reputation for being 'the' community event in the UK, and we are looking to bring this to USA. Hi Guys: A recruiter for IPsoft recently contacted me about a couple of open SysAdmin positions. I guess he got my name from one of the LUG mailing lists. What do you guys think about offering him 4 minutes to present 2 featured jobs on the projector prior to the Talk in exchange for buying say $250 worth beer at the event? I'll ask him to pay the Four Seas in cash directly and have them put out a selection of bottled beer in ice. I figure that will be 50 to 75 beers depending on what the Four Seas charges for each beer, ie, about 1 per person depending on exactly how many people show up. 2nd BALUG Email Announcement on High Volume Lists?

Hi BALUG Volunteers: What do you guys think about making a 2nd BALUG announcement that reminds folks of Bruce Peren's talk next week on high volume LUG lists in the area? Specifically, I am thinking that the talk lists of ACCU, SVLUG, SFLUG and BayPiggies are high enough volume that a reminder may be seen as helpful (or at a minimum not bother folks). I recently confirmed Eric Allman's April speaking slot at BALUG. He wrote back asking the following... "Was there anything in particular you wanted me to talk about? My main gig these days has been DKIM (Email Authentication), but that's caused me to be thinking some about identity on the Internet. That's a lot more arm-wavy though." So, we can expect you to be doing a technical presentation at an upcoming BALUG meeting? I didn't realize you'd already been confirmed for such. Per list policy: "Linux jobs postings are welcome and allowed only from those recently having given a technical presentation at a BALUG meeting (or confirmed to do so at an upcoming BALUG meeting)" http://lists.balug.org/listinfo.cgi/balug-talk-balug.org Or in other words: Can I post a job? Not generally, but for starters, see: http://lists.balug.org/listinfo.cgi/balug-talk-balug.org At least at the present time, the list noted above is the only place BALUG has for listing any job postings - and even then, only under the conditions noted as policy for that list. You're quite welcome to come to BALUG meeting(s) and make a short announcement about position(s) you're trying to fill, and hand your contact information out to whomever may be interested (and of course you can also meet folks before the meeting starts, talk with folks over dinner before any scheduled talk starts, and potentially meet and talk with folks after the meeting too). User Groups can be great resources for networking with folks, but many/most of them have policies against, or significantly restricting listing of job postings, or have relegated the area(s) where job postings are allowed to list(s) or area(s) specifically designated for such, or only allow such listings after they're moderated/approved. I just got a note from Mark Shuttleworth's assistant that he needs to change the date from Monday 3/24 to Tuesday 3/25. I told her this was fine.
