For our 2012-07-17 meeting BALUG is proud to present:
screen(1), presented by Michael Paoli
screen(1) is a highly useful and quite versitile utility, considered
"essential" by many or most Linux systems administrators, and also
often heavily utilized by many other Linux users. Most notably,
screen(1) is a terminal session manager, allowing one to create,
manage, detatch from, and reattach to terminal sessions. But screen(1)
has a very rich feature set, allowing one to do numerous related useful
things, e.g. copy/paste from independent scrollback buffers, title and
retitle screen(1) sessions and terminal window sessions within
screen(1), monitor window sessions for (in)activity and report on
window activity, can be set to work with multiple users for read-only
or read-write sharing of terminal sessions, and is highly configurable,
to name but a few of its numerous features and capabilities.
Michael Paoli has been using screen(1) for about a dozen or more years.
He's been doing Linux systems administration for over 14 years, and
has professionally been working in Linux/Unix systems administration in
excess of two decades, and has worked with Unix since long before than
all that.
So, if you'd like to join us please RSVP to:
rsvp(a)balug.org
**Why RSVP??**
Well, don't worry we won't turn you away, but the RSVPs really help
BALUG and the Four Seas Restaurant plan the meal and meeting, and with
sufficient attendance, they also help ensure that we'll be able to eat
upstairs in the private banquet room.
