Well I'll stretch the metaphor to the breaking point with a broad survey of Voice over IP (VOIP). I will try to provide information that a system administrator will need to know about VOIP and how it will co-exist with current systems and networks. -------- BayLISA meets every month on the 3rd Thursday of the month. A short period of announcements of general interest to the sysadmin community is presented, followed by a technical talk. Oh dear. This blurb's location is deeply confusing. Piano Bar was a one-time site adjustment, it's a smaller room in Building 4 on Infinite Loop. We're not meeting there this month. If you only want to see the speaker: 8 ish... maybe 8:30 pm. We have announcements before the speaker begins, so current linux events, other LUGs, job offers or wanteds are ok at the mike. But do keep it brief :) Ending: the Four Seas closes promptly at 10pm. Dr. Tormasov is a professor of computer science at MIPT, and established the Linux based Virtuozzo technology, which allows hundreds of Linux instances to be independendtly isolated and supported on a single Intel-based system. There are lots of stores and interesting Chinatown/North Beach sightseeing opportunities in the immediate area should non-linux enabled family or guests accompany. Otherwise we recommend parking at the city garage located at Kearny and Commercial- directly across from the Chinatown Holiday Inn. Traffic into the city during rush hour has been unusually heavy. If you are coming up from the south bay we recommend 101 to Civic Center (stay on the left), bear left off the exit and bear left at Market Street. Then take Van Ness (N- or Right) to Broadway and make another Right. Go through the Broadway Tunnel to Columbus, make a Right on Columbus, go about four blocks and make a Right to Kearny, Right ON Kearny and a left into the garage just past Commercial. Parking in Chinatown seems much more difficult than it actually is.
