BALUG meeting 2006-01-17: XML11 - An Abstract Windowing Protocol by Arno Puder ------------------------------------------------------------------------ For our January 17th, 2006 meeting BALUG has an exiting presentation lined up: Title: XML11 - An Abstract Windowing Protocol Abstract: This presentation introduces XML11, an abstract windowing protocol inspired by the X11-protocol develop by MIT. XML11 is an XML-based protocol that allows asynchronous UI updates of widgets to an end-device. To overcome high-latency connections, XML11 allows migration of application logic to the end-device. The prototype implementation of XML11 runs in any standard web browser without Java capabilities on the client-side and replaces AWT/Swing on the server-side. This also allows us to expose legacy AWT/Swing applications as web applications. Ultimately XML11 can be used for writing Ajax applications without requiring any JavaScript knowledge. The prototype implementation of XML11 is released under the GPL and available at www.xml11.org Bio: Arno Puder received his masters and Ph.D. in computer science and is currently working as an Assistant Professor at San Francisco State University. He is one of the founders of the MICO CORBA implementation. BALUG news: 2005-11-15 meeting: Shell & FVWM; and other BALUG news ------------------------------------------------------------------------ For the November 15th, 2005 BALUG meeting, we'll be including: A follow-up/follow-on to Introduction to Shell Programming, by Michael Paoli This will mostly be question and answer and mini-demonstrations and examples. So, if you came to the October meeting and have more questions, want to see examples and demonstrations, etc., or didn't make it to the October meeting and would like to ask Shell Programming questions, see demonstrations, examples, etc. this should make for a useful and informative meeting to attend. Additionally, we should also get to squeeze in one other quite short mini-demonstration/mini-presentation by Michael Paoli: "Why I like FVWM" - FVWM is a powerful and highly configure multiple virtual desktop window manager for the X Window system. Dick requested me to post this on the balug-talk and announce lists There will be no December meeting for balug! Balug dinner will be now $11.00 instead of $10.00 starting in November 2005. There has not been a price increase in over FIVE years. The November meeting will be held on November 15 2005. No speaker has beem scheduled.
