tools with their easy-to-use Autopsy[3] web-based front-end. The talk
will cover initial installation and configuration of Sleuthkit and
Autopsy, basic concepts and considerations for a forensics
investigation, and at the end there will be a demo with a real,
compromised Linux image.

at Women in Open Source
Cathy Malmrose will be speaking about "An International Look at Women
in Open Source" segwaying off her most recent article for OSBR[1]
(upcoming June article). We will be exploring topics that cover why
there are so few women in Open Source, who are the prominent women in
Open Source internationally, and ending with a round of collaborative
suggestions on how to invite the other 50% of the population to
contribute freely to Open Source projects.
Cathy Malmrose is CEO of ZaReason[2], Inc., which is based in Berkeley,
California and builds and sells a variety of Linux hardware solutions,
including servers, laptops, and desktops. Cathy, in addition to being
CEO of ZaReason, runs a non-profit, Partimus[3], supporting technology
in education. She has also done much volunteer work with the nonprofit
computer recycling organization Alameda County Computer Resource Center
(ACCRC)[4], spent the 90s as a tech writer, and is also a

Allison Randal[1] on Parrot[2], etc.
Parrot is a virtual machine like no other. Targeting dynamic languages
such as Perl[3], Ruby[4], Python[5] and PHP[6], it incorporates an
object-oriented assembly language, is register-based rather than
stack-based, and employs continuations as the core means of flow
control. It hosts a powerful suite of compiler tools tailored to
dynamic languages and a next generation regular expression engine. This
talk briefly explains the overall architecture of Parrot and teaches
the skills needed to get started hacking in Parrot.

Kyle Rankin[1] on "Where'd my Files Go? - A guide to the Modern Ubuntu
Distribution"
Please RSVP if you're planning to come (see further below).
While you might not be able to tell at a cursory glance, a lot has
changed behind the scenes on a modern Ubuntu system from what you
might be used to if you have used Linux for years. For example,
did you know Ubuntu is phasing out System V init? That you can't
loopback-mount the initrd? In this talk Kyle will discuss the
current changes Ubuntu is making to what we might consider the
traditional Linux system. There's a little something for everyone
on the talk: For Linux newbies who are curious about what's under
the hood Kyle will cover the traditional and modern boot process
including how init works and follow up with a guide to where
important files are in Ubuntu. For the experienced Linux user Kyle
will show you how (and why) things have changed and where you can
look now when you want to, for instance, change the default
runlevel on an Ubuntu system.
